You may be thinking...
What does #SchenectadyReads have to do with mental health?
Reading has been shown to have a positive effect on mental health by helping us to make connections, improve our ability to think flexibly, and reduce stress.
The reality is for many people, reading, is a way, a strategy, that many people use to cope. Reading helps all of us, especially children and teens, see themselves in a new light.
The #SchenectadyReads team wants to help you find, and celebrate, your place in the world. When you see someone like you reflected in books, you get a clearer vision of what’s possible, of what you can do, of where you can go. The #SchenectadyReads team handpicks titles that help you see that vision. Books allow us to empathize with characters, escape to new worlds, imagine a different future, rejuvenate us - books don’t judge or discriminate...they are just there for us. We are announcing here the launch of the Summer 2020 #schenectadyreads Book Mobile! It will be part bus, part virtual library. For now, we hope that you are able to click on our #schenectadyreads virtual bookmobile, you can browse some brand new books we just added to our collection.
You can check a book out from our e-library and you never have to worry about late fees, losing the book, or forgetting where you put it! Simply click on the rainbow logo that says #schenectadyreads. We hope that you fall in love, find an escape, imagine a new world, or meet new people in our virtual bookmobile! |
